Perch Creek

Wider section of Perch Creek, downstream of Perch Lake and a number of ranches. Testing takes place just downstream of the bridge at Doyle Road. This is a roadside site. The water is tested close to a riffle area in the stream.
This site has been tested by trained community scientists since 2015.

Caddisfly larvae, snails, 1 small minnow. Green frogs calling, dragonflies. Very slow flow today.
Many aquatic insect larvae, 1 leech. Nuthatches, blue jays, 1 bullfrog calling. Possible beaver dam downstream, flooding on banks.
Sculpin sighted, windy at site, muskrat swam down river towards us but turned tail when it realized we were there, very little birdsong, mostly chickadees.
Leopard frog, 2 snakes (one unidentified and one northern water snake), several goldfinches, lots of small larvae, snails, water striders, one caddisfly larva in water, one adult caddisfly spotted.
Garter snake, cardinal flower, many small larvae, snails and water striders. Dead minnow under bridge.
Turkey vulture, American goldfinch, white-throated sparrow, leopard frog. Less caddisfly larvae then before, but many still present. Lots of water striders and water boatmen, many snails.
Common yellowthroat, red-eyed vireo, veery, Eastern Pheobe, olive-sided flycatcher. High water with fast current, slight gusts of wind. Still lots of caddisfly larvae, water striders, dragonflies and horseflies. 3 fish spotted: 2 dace species and one sculpin.
Water striders, caddisfly larvae in droves, red-eyed vireo calling, many dragonflies and horseflies, a few snails sighted.
A truly terrifying amount of mosquitoes. Cobble and riffle area filled with caddisfly larvae.
