This site is located as close to the headwaters of Perch Creek as we can viably get to. Test samples are taken just before the culvert that allows the creek to pass under Monck Road.

View all photosOrbweaver female still there but the male is gone (lover's spat?), many small frogs, minnow school is still there and they're getting bigger, damselflies and dragonflies spotted, lots of traffic today so no birds seen or heard.
Blue jay, ovenbird, chickadees calling. Minnow hatchlings still present. Many horseflies and deerflies. Male and female orchard orbweaver spiders seen on cattails.
Minnow hatchlings, two green frogs, caddisflies, horseflies and deerflies.
Lots of dragon flies - ergo lots of mosquitoes! Chickadees, wild turkey. High traffic on the road today.
Many different dragonflies and damselflies, swallowtail butterfly, small pile of goose scat on bank. Ovenbird, chickadee, and blue jay calling (the latter very agitated over something). Caddisfly larvae still present. Small minnows spotted, and one larger fish that darted away once we got close to the bank. Looked like it might have been a sucker but can't be 100% sure.
Caddisfly larvae still present, little brown birds of various kinds sighted, last year's cattail stalks have all fallen, this year's growth of them has started though. Several marsh marigold plants in full bloom.
Grate has been replaced, no bird song this time but some insects, squirrels chattering in woods, saw some caddisfly larvae on stream bed.
Grate covering culvert has been removed, nearby landowner stopped to chat (wondered what we were doing), seagulls in the distance flying high.
Runoff from ditch going into stream but vegetation filtering sand out, chickadees calling.
