This site is located as close to the headwaters of Perch Creek as we can viably get to. Test samples are taken just before the culvert that allows the creek to pass under Monck Road.

View all photosPatches of snow still present, creek has flooded its bank. Chickadees calling in the distance. Runoff from the roadside ditch joining Perch Creek at the culvert, this is where the chloride test was taken. Another test was taken upstream, and got a chloride reading of 16 ppm. A chloride test on the runoff from the ditch got a chloride reading of 68 ppm.
Snow on ground, water flowing faster than last time, chipmunks chattering at each other, no minnows this time, 2 caddisfly larvae in the water!
Thin layer of ice on edges of creek. Small minnow (approx 5cm) sighted- possibly a dace of some kind. Cattails gone to seed, no birdsong heard. Squirrels chattering in the distance
Chickadees, one small minnow, vegetation is dying and falling into the creek.
Blue jay, chickadees, wild carrot tops around the culvert, cattails gone to seed head along the creek bank.
Stream bed on each side of the test site is devoid of water flow. It is mucky, not dry, but there is no visible water flow. It was like testing water in a clean, relatively clear puddle. There is very little water in the culvert. Vegetation along the banks has not started to decompose. bumble bees, butterflies and squirrels.
Steady traffic, lots of 18 wheeler trucks, very noisy, chickadees, a hawk, crows, a bumblebee, lazy mosquitoes and an angry chipmunk.
School of minnows, leopard frog, green frog, butterflies, chipmunks, steady traffic.
2 leopard frogs, bumble bees, goldfinches and chickadees calling,chipmunk, goldenrod blooming, cattails seeding.
Creek has run dry, no water to test, garbage all over road near site.
Note: The team went back on August 14, 2016 and cleaned up the garbage. There was water in the creek again during this visit as there was rainfall the previous day.
