View all photosThe ice went out two weeks ago. There were ducks, geese, swans, heron and frogs at the river.
In the tall plants further along the shoreline I heard a disturbance and looked up to see a house cat with some prey. As I continued to watch the little animal got away from the cat. It was a young rabbit.
I startled a great blue heron and some ducks when I approached the water's edge.
There is more algae on the river. There was a kayaker and someone canoeing.
There were two groups of fishers. I spoke with one person about taking water samples and told him about the Water Rangers website. He told me he had caught a few perch earlier in the day that were too small to keep as well as a small gobi fish.
Construction continues on the bridge during the week.
Construction continues all summer on the bridge. There were 2 fishermen casting from the bank of the river.
Work began April 16th to replace the bridge at Black River. This construction will continue into the fall.
A swan was swimming downstream from the bridge and a great blue heron flew overhead. There were two boys fishing at the bridge.
The data was collected over two evenings (April 5 & 6) as I needed advice about getting the conductivity meter to work. On the second night I saw a small black fish that looked like it had one bulging eye and wasn't sure if it had a problem. It was swimming normally.
Birds are returning - I saw ducks & red-winged black birds.
The ice went out March 1st.
No rain in past 24 hrs. Sunny and bit windy. No wildlife to be seen or heard.
A young boy was fishing and caught a perch. There were three snakes along the water's edge.
