
Napanee River (between Yarker and Camden East)

Clear, slow moving water throughout the year and approximately 6-7 feet in depth throughout the Summer. The river is approximately 80 feet across at this location. Perfect recreation area for swimming, canoeing, and kayaking.
Small (but portage-able) rapids 1/2 km upstream and 1 km downstream.
Major falls at Yarker and Newburgh, otherwise the river is navigable from the beginning of the Napanee Watershed at the Depot Lakes in the north to the end of the watershed flowing into the Bay of Quinte at the town of Napanee.

View all photos1" of snow overnight, otherwise all of the snow has left. The river level is up approximately 18" over the normal summertime depth, and the runoff is causing the river to flow quickly with intermittent "bergy bits" from the thaw up river.
Over 110 mm of rain throughout the month of October.
64 mm of rain with the big system that passed 22-24 Sep.
As a result, the river level went up by 3+ inches.
30+C over the last 1.5 weeks and no significant rainfall (25 mm) since August 11th
With recent, intermittent rains across the watershed, the river level is slightly higher than normal at this time of year.
No rain since May 9th (3 weeks).
Female mallard and 6 new ducklings 200 feet upriver.
Pairs of Canada Geese flying up and down the river and one pair of Mallard Ducks. Large number of Painted Turtles of varying ages both up and down river.
Sunny and clear skies over the last 3 days. Very minimal ice on the south side of the river's edge.
Saw two frogs (much earlier than normal) in one of our large thawed ponds (the other is still frozen over). Appears to be no winter kill-off this year.
6 Migratory Hooded Mergansers, 4 Wood Ducks, and 4 Mallards present over the last week. They all move north out of our coniferous zone in a few weeks.
Canada Geese have returned and never really left on the open sections well down river !!! LOTS of Canada Geese moving north over us over the last week.
First time we have seen the river freeze in our section of the river this late in the Winter ... normally late December or early January.
Clear and sunny but there have been a number of low pressure days with 32 mm of rain over the last week. Sharp drop in temperature from 23C yesterday ... clearly our last warm day for some time !!
