Grand Marais Ditch
Ontario, Canada
A waterway that flows through Windsor and empties into the Detroit River near Lake Erie. It originates in a wetland area at Central Avenue and Grand Marais. It is called Cedar Creek as it gets close to where it enters the Detroit River. The city wishes to maintain it for drainage. Some areas on the shores have been improved by removing toxic soil from old industrial sites and planting vegetation and trees. Where I am sampling, near a bridge off Grand Marais and close to Parent as the cross street, has some natural vegetation and walking trails. Nearby a lot of vegetation and trees were removed by the city which stated the main reason was to repel beavers, which are making a comeback. The water is very shallow normally in this area - maybe two foot deep in centre and flows steadily.
