Hardness

Water hardness refers to the concentration of calcium and magnesium in a sample of water; these minerals are dissolved when water comes into contact with limestone. The reverse process can lead to the buildup of mineral scale deposits on the inside of pipes.

How Hardness is measured

Water alkalinity is measured in terms of an equivalent concentration of calcium carbonate in a water sample:

  • 0-20 mg/L : Soft
  • 21-60 mg/L : Moderately soft
  • 61-120 mg/L : Moderately Hard
  • 121-180 mg/L : Hard
  • >180 mg/L : Very Hard
