Tributary entering SE End of East Lake
Cherry Valley, Ontario, Canada
Slow moving creek that feeds into the SE end of East Lake in Cherry Valley. It is an area of marshland but water here is deep enough for a public boat launch and dock where we do our testing. It is known at the Lions Memorial Park. Water feeding this small creek / river comes from a great distance across the southern end of Prince Edward County, enter East Lake which then flows out into Lake Ontario via the Outlet River at Sandbanks Provincial Park at the western end of East Lake.

View all photosHot , humid and hazy day with calm wind and water. No rain in past 24 hours. Lovely green frog hopping around . Lots of green algae bloom on the water near launch and dock. Spoke with 2 fishermen and gave WR cards to them. One young chap heading out in his canoe…his partner is an environmental technician so he would give her the info to check out the site. He says not as many fish caught this year, likely due to extreme heat he thinks, but ones caught are bigger than usual…even the sunfish. Catches bass, walleye and pike here normally. Also said on Lake Ontario around PEC the Gobi fish are taking over and some days that’s all they catch…..not a good sign to see those invasive species becoming so prevalent.
Partly cloudy and mild wind, with a few MM rain over past 24 hrs. Minnows in the water, butterflies, crows and songbirds around, as well as some bugs.
Overcast sky with 3 MM rainfall in past 24 hours. Red winged blackbirds, songbirds, crickets , frogs & toads around the marsh. Fair bit of green algae bloom on the surface along the edges.
About 5 MM rain today after 3 weeks with none at all, so very welcomed. Overcast and calm now so no current at all on the river. Swans seen out in the lake past the mouth of the river. Some water bugs on the surface and birds and crickets heard. A lone rabbit hopped along in the grass above the boat launch.
Hazy day with calm winds. No rain in past 24 hours. Red winged blackbirds all over the place in the marsh and some bugs out & about too. Fisherman had just come in to dock up. Got talking with some local folks here who were interested in what our tests were about so gave them some info and the card to look us up online.
Sunny and calm day with no rain over past 24 hours. Already the county is showing signs of low snow melt and low water levels...ominous sign for summer unless we get a really wet spring in April. Lots of ducks, geese and swans out on East Lake where the river empties into the lake. Woodpeckers and songbirds can be heard here today loud and clear.
Hazy day and not very windy at all. No rain in past 24 hours. Very quiet here today with none of the usual red-winged blackbirds around or anything else. A few dozen seedling trees have been planted nearby recently so hope most of them make it through their first winter here.
Pair of swans leaving as I biked in to the dock area. Quite windy and overcast with stormy looking sky. Lots of rain ( about 30 MM ) in past 24 hours and around 80MM total over past 3-4 days in this region of the county.
Partly cloudy and windy with no rain in past 24 hours. Red winged blackbirds here in the marsh, as always, along with dragonflies. Some turtles jumped into the water from a dock downstream that they’d been sunning themselves on. Boat being launched as I was leaving so talked with them about WR and gave them an info card to follow up online if they wanted to.
No rain in past 24 hours. Saw schools of minnows in the water, dragonflies, waterbugs, red-winged blackbirds and other songbirds. Some algae clumps floating on the surface here and there.
