Hartwell Locks

Rideau Canal

Hull, Ontario, Canada

The water was slow moving, and it was a sunny but windy day. There is a residential and natural park area around the body of water, as well a lock by the site. The water was very low in the canal. The water surface had natural debris, foam and scrum. There was urban/road discharge in the immediate surroundings. The water use was a public water supply. There was evidence of dried up algae (but not very sure what kind). The colour of the water was a brown/grey and it was not very clear (opaque). There was a strange odour, not quite sewage, petroleum, or algae, but more natural but distinct.
