Dogs are known for being loyal, affectionate, agile, and intelligent, in their daily lives and around their human companions. Different dog breeds are known for their various heightened senses such as the sense of smell and hearing, while others are known for their physical abilities such as mobility and muscle power.

ESAs need to have certain qualities that make them perfect candidates be emotional support animals. The type of pet dog that one adopts or brings home should be chosen according to the lifestyle of the person suffering from a mental or emotional problem. This can be a dog suited for apartment or indoor living, it can be an outdoor dog, or it can be a family dog that behaves well around children and others.
No matter what type of breed that you get to be your esa letter, they need to be intelligent in their adaptability to situations, in judging the emotional condition of the human companion, and in following commands and always being under the control of the human companion.
