View all photosTested the PH on both creeks coming into Holgar lake at the south end. The creek draining Burkosky lake read a PH of 7.1
The creek draining the small kettle lakes on the east side had a PH of 7.4
The lake level is approximately 30 cm lower than normal
The lake has been surrounded by a large forest fire for a month now
There is a very large agressive fire all along the western shore of the lake. The fire has been burning for a week now and has produced lots of ash floating on surface. There is also what appears to be algae suspended throughout the water column. The ph seems very high compared to previous readings so I calibrated the meter again but still got the same reading. Could the ash or algae be increasing the ph?
Much of the burn is of relatively old growth jack pine stands with caribou moss ground cover.
Low snow pack, ice at sample site is 90 cm deep with approximately 20 cm of frazil ice and 70 cm of blue ice
Extremely warm unusual conditions. Lake is full of flood water from rain storm
Ph meter batteries were done, unable to get a ph reading at this time.
Ice was gone two weeks prior
There is 30 » of ice, 22 is blue ice and 8 is slush ice.
I had to make a special Secchi disc to fit through the auger hole. My auger is only 6 ».
There were 5 woodland caribou enjoying the sun on the lake until my dog tried to herd them.
The ice came off completely one week ago
