water levels extremely high. Large amounts of debris floating down river
Clear and sunny
water is much clearer than in past tests.
Leeches are now along the shore which we have
not seen before. Probably introduced by fishermen who use them for bait and dump the leftovers in the river .
Ice left river on April 7. Large pieces still floating by from upstream.
Locals are complaining about the smell coming from the Pontiac Industrial Park and are assuming that it is coming from the septic disposal company Uteau which operates in the park. A site visit by myself proved it to be coming from the Biopark that was build around 1991 to store waste from the paper mill.
There is liquid leaching out of this site going into the waste lagoons that is causing the smell. I,m told that Quebec environment is looking into the situation as the Province owns the 7 lagoons which are beside the river with only a rock berm between them and the water.
