Shikwamkwa Lake

Shikwamkwa Lake

Hawk Junction, Ontario, Canada

This lake is intricately connected to the Windermere River and Goldie River with a spread of flows moving southerly in a variety of directions. The location of the water sampling is at a boat launch, where signs posted indicate that there is no fishing allowed due to its classification as a "Fish Sanctuary". There are signs that indicate the boundaries of the fish sanctuary. NOTE: The Windermere River is claimed to have been a historical trade route with connections to lakes near the Lake Superior Provincial Park, and to the east, makes connections to Balkow Lake, which is a part of the Little Missanabie Lake, which connects to the "big" Missinaibi Lake at Ferry Point, a sacred place with historical pictographs. It is indicated in elder "Archi Nolan's" notes, that there exists pictographs on the Windermere River.

Water level significantly lower, which has exposed what looks to be infrastructure from a pre-existing bridge. There were a lot of minnow in the water. Note: This location is the border of a fish sanctuary to the north side of the lake, hence the abundance of minnows detected.

There was a vehicle from Michigan parked, as there was on my last trip. Along with a Pontoon boat parked on shore. Also, across the lake on the far point, was a dock that was not there on my last visit.
