View all photosA warm and sunny day today (high for the day was approx. 25°C). Water levels on the Ottawa River are beginning to go down. With the high temperatures the map turtles are now out sunning on the logs. I counted 14 map turtles in the bay and saw a garter snake near the shoreline.
I found a dead pumpkinseed fish on the shoreline. Not sure how it died. Note: Water levels right how are very high. They have not been this high in about 20 years.
Ice is off the water on the Ontario side, and water is open. Still some ice cover on the Quebec side. (Flocks of Canada Geese are starting to arrive too)
Found three dead minnows/small fish on the beach on today (Friday, December 2/2016). They have been identified as a Spottail Shiner, and two juvenile sunfishes. Unsure of why they died.
