Dog River at Mouth of Robinson Bayou
Mobile, Alabama, United States
This site normally has a 36"-24" high tide rise above the low tide every day. River Depth can run 3'-12' within 300' of site. Water velocity is about 2 mph when the tide is running. This site is a brackish transition zone (fresh and salt water), depending upon the daily rainfall, wind, storms, and tides. The water is very salty in drought conditions. It is fresh when there is a lot or rainfall. There are a lot of species (red fish, speckled trout, crabs, manatee, catfish, bait fish, alligator gars, alligators, brown pelicans, osprey, bald eagles, migratory birds) which inhabit or migrate through this area. Porpoise were seen from this site in early summer 2017. Flora and fauna may be changing from fresh to salt due to salt water intrusion due to the ocean rise. The marsh around cypress trees is eroding due to boat traffic. Cypress trees in marshes are slowly dying (5-7 trees in 4-5 years). Flora and fauna may be changing from fresh to salt due to salt water intrusion due to the ocean rise. Bacteria (e-coli) warnings occur during heavy rainfalls due to sanitary sewers overflowing upstream.

A manatee was spotted 200' downstream 2 days before the water test. 2-19" redfish caught this week.
Blue heron nesting in dead cypress tree across the river on the marsh inland adjacent Point Legere.
No salt content was noted at surface water, 18" below surface, or 6" above bottom of river.
Cyanobacteria(?) colonies (small dots) noted in water.
Bryozoan Pectinatella magnifica found under pier at sample site.
Water is warming up due to reduced rainfall this week and high temperatures (90 degrees F).
0.01" rain last 7 days.
Wads of sago pond grass floating with outgoing tide.

Thousands of water striders (Gerridae) on water surface. Long thin river grass strands floating on top of water. Lots of thin 3-d web like river grass has grown in shallow waters and is being flushed out by rain waters into the main river channel.
Some rain almost every day appears to be keeping the salt water out of the river at test site.
North wind 5-10 mph. Subtropical depression about 100 miles to the east. Samples taken at surface, 18" from surface, and 6" from bottom all had 0 PPT salt content.
Very little rain the last three weeks. 0.15" rain in previous 24 hrs.
