Dog River at Mouth of Robinson Bayou
Mobile, Alabama, United States
This site normally has a 36"-24" high tide rise above the low tide every day. River Depth can run 3'-12' within 300' of site. Water velocity is about 2 mph when the tide is running. This site is a brackish transition zone (fresh and salt water), depending upon the daily rainfall, wind, storms, and tides. The water is very salty in drought conditions. It is fresh when there is a lot or rainfall. There are a lot of species (red fish, speckled trout, crabs, manatee, catfish, bait fish, alligator gars, alligators, brown pelicans, osprey, bald eagles, migratory birds) which inhabit or migrate through this area. Porpoise were seen from this site in early summer 2017. Flora and fauna may be changing from fresh to salt due to salt water intrusion due to the ocean rise. The marsh around cypress trees is eroding due to boat traffic. Cypress trees in marshes are slowly dying (5-7 trees in 4-5 years). Flora and fauna may be changing from fresh to salt due to salt water intrusion due to the ocean rise. Bacteria (e-coli) warnings occur during heavy rainfalls due to sanitary sewers overflowing upstream.
