View all photosOvercast and windy with some current on the river today. Water covered with green algae in most places. Assorted butterflies, moths, dragonflies, other insects and birds flying and singing.
Partly cloudy and calm. No rain in past 24 hrs. Saw porcupine climbing up a tree nearby as we walked to test location and a family of either beavers or muskrats ( too far to be able to tell which exactly ) swimming around downstream of us. Lots of chickadees and other songbirds, and red winged blackbirds here. So much green slimy algae everywhere and river seems to be much lower than we remember seeing it since we’ve been coming here....wonder if beavers have been doing some of their work to affect this?
Overcast & windy with strong current on the river today. Some rain overnight. Weeds in the river but not as many as in the summertime. Saw blue jays, chickadees, woodpeckers, white moth, green frog, and dragonflies. Saw a bat box but no sign of bats having lived there recently.
Full Ross water rangers team on duty :) Met a man from the local health unit who was testing the water used by the centre so we told him all about Water Rangers and gave him a card to go to the site. He's a fisherman too so was very interested in all the testing done. Saw flocks of ducks, mourning doves, chichadees, white moths, butterflies, grasshoppers, frog, a slug, dragon flies and mosquitoes. So much green slimy algae everywhere on the water surface and weeds below , with many bullrushes. The conductivity reading was the highest we've ever seen and the DO was the lowest of anywhere we have tested!
