View all photosThis is the first opportunity I have had to test for the final weekend in 2024. There were active CSO spills at the time of testing. The flow is fast, there is scum and the river is orangey-brown. Nutrient measurements are low despite the known contamination. My feeling is that this can be attributed to extreme dilution of the contaminant due to the heavy rainfall.
Flow faster than usual with visible foam but no odour. Sample turbid with slight yellow/brown discolouration (sediment). No discharge from 7 CSOs on the section as per EDM map. Most recent spill - 24.11.2024 (5 days ago). River level 0.61 (0.57 goes over deck).
No known sewage discharge today. A feisty swan was present!
CSOs 5x clear, 1x offline but no discharge suspected.
River is greenish but don't think there are indications of contamination.
Several large fish if you zoom in!
This test was taken while the Hamilton Terrace CSO upstream of the test location was actively discharging and there was an ongoing incident at Mill Bridge involving a misconnection with sewage discharging into the river, also upstream of the test site.
