While I was at the location, I noticed a strong odour either of a chemical or petroleum that would come and go intermittently. The smell would last for couple of minutes, then disappear, and return shortly after. This pattern kept happening the entire time I was there. Park/Recreation in the immediate surroundings.
The water is dirty. An uneven ground surface (with big boulders) covered in snow could be a challenge. Please wear boots and gloves while monitoring this location. This location has 4 outflows, so please monitor two rectangular-shaped concrete outflows. The bank is partially covered in snow. Air temperature with wind chill was -19 degrees Celsius.
THE TERRAIN IS VERY UNSAFE. THIS SITE CAN NOT BE ACCESSED WITHOUT PROPER GUIDANCE. The terrain is snow covered with approx., 1 meter of snowpack. The left and right banks snow escarpments are hard packed, and unstable. The water is flowing under left bank and has created an overflow approx. a meter wide. The area is unsafe for anyone to enter unless you are trained in snow and ice readiness, survival, ad safety awareness and working near water in winter. ONLY GO WITH KIKI. She is certified. Ice on the water surface.
Storm water is a pollution source in the immediate surroundings.
The smell of diesel was strong. The two casings are frozen solid, and the two culverts coming from under Carmen's way, the one on the left(looking at it) is flowing, the other is frozen. I could not see the substrate because the water was so opaque. The snow piles around it is at least 1.5 meters. There could be salt residues in road salts here. It would be good to monitor this site, but it could become very unsafe.
The site is currently inaccessible for water monitoring due to deep snow accumulation, unstable icy surface, and the risk of falling through thin ice along the stream's edge.
Overgrown vegetation is dying, but still can't see the bottom. Boulders on riprap are moving so be careful. Monitoring location is right beside the main road therefore need to park vehicle in the construction company's parking. Weather was windy and hard to balance on that rock. Do not recommend to go solo.
Overgrown vegetation on the boulders. Watch your steps as climb down to reach the location. Be careful while crossing the river from the left side of the storm drainage and wear boots. Lots of algae and boulders are slippery.
Little dry vegetation as a reason of starting fall, less water as compared to last week, surface of water was covered with dry leaves and vegetation.
I observed the bank was covered with dense vegetation and a steep surface of boulders. Vegetation height was almost 1 to 1.5 meters and Careful while stepping. Natural debris of vegetation and trees on the surface of the water channel.
Dense vegetation and boulders on the slope. Carefull while stepping.
The bank is steep and covered with high-density vegetation. Boulder are also present on the bank and covered with vegetation. So watch your steps while going down for monitoring.
