Public viewing area south end of lake, Interlaken Trail.
The Coastal Partners in Conservation Society, in partnership with the city of Coquitlam has built a nesting beach at the south end of Lost Lake for western painted turtles, the only native pond turtle left in B.C. and one that's known for its yellow and red stripes.

High water level, some flooding near shore, very small amount of floating algae (duckweed?) mat near shore
1 pair of mallards, 1 pair of common mergansers observed
Attempted to obtain a pH reading with new calibrated pH meter but question the result of the value of pH of 8.7 obtained

Pollen, needles on surface of water; much less duckweed(algae?) than previous month (remaining only near shore)
2 mallard couples observed
American robin, song sparrow, pine siskin heard and confirmed by Merlin app.
2 mature turtles observed sunning on log (they were too distant to identify if they were painted turtles or red eared sliders).
Water level remains high (but no flooding of shore)

Two turtles observed sunning themselves on distant log....no turtles observed near shore; the turtles were too far away to identify

Water level is lower than last month (about 7 cm lower)
Observed 1 painted turtle; 2 red eared slider turtles; Coastal Partners in Conservation emailed

5 bears have been observed swimming at Lost Lake regularly;
1 bear was observed swimming with a turtle in its jaws 1 week ago; reported to us by a park user and confirmed with a photograph

More surface vegetation observed than last month; 3 mallards and 1 Great Blue Heron observed
