About
We have been studying the effects of lake acidification on Common Loon breeding success in the Sudbury Ontario region since 1982.
Water testing protocol
We are testing 94 lakes in the Sudbury region as part of a long-term loon study: pH, alkalinity, conductivity, hardness, and oxygen for water surface samples. We are taking visibility (Secchi) readings, noting the water colour, and doing water temperature profiles down to the lake bottom at 1 metre intervals.
