About
Nature Trust Freshwater Monitoring is a community science initiative led by the Nature Trust of New Brunswick that trains and supports volunteers in monitoring the health of freshwater ecosystems across the province. Participants receive hands-on training—both online and in the field—using standardized WET-Pro protocols and Water Rangers kits to collect data on key indicators such as pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, and temperature.
The program plays a vital role in helping the Nature Trust assess water quality before and after restoration projects on its network of over 98 nature preserves. Volunteers also have the opportunity to sign out equipment and monitor their own local water bodies, contributing to a province-wide network of engaged freshwater stewards working to protect New Brunswick’s lakes, rivers, and wetlands.
