About
The society has two main projects; a water diversion that maintains a flow of fresh water into the lake and an aquatic weed harvesting program. The diversion was constructed in 1994 and was completely rebuilt in 2018. It provides 12 cubic feet per second from May through September.
An Aquamarine weed harvester was acquired in 1998 and typically operates from July through September. To date, society volunteers have removed more than 3000 dump truck loads of Elodea Canadensis from the lake.
Water testing protocol
In the past the society has teamed with the Ministry of Environment to record temperature and dissolved oxygen profiles using the ministry's equipment. In recent years, due to a shortage of instruments, observations have been limited to sporatic surface temperature and secchi readings.
In 2020 a number of members attended a water sampling clinic and the society was provided with two Water Rangers test kits. It is hoped we will be able to conduct more regular sampling starting in 2021.
