About

Focused on land in Athabasca, County we want to capture and monitor water quality on our conservation easements as well as collect data from potential easements to ensure we have a baseline.

Water testing protocol

Baseline testing will be done prior to grant application and monitoring will be done yearly for the life of the conservation easement. We are looking for appearance of anything on the water and the immediate surroundings, if there is evidence of use outside of the scope of the conservation easement, if there is algae, and if water flow, height, colour, and odour is consistent with previous visits or historical information. Collecting the water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, and Secchi depth are essential with chlorine, alkalinity, and hardness as secondary on ponds as we know these are rural and not used by the landowners. If it is flowing water or used by the landowner in some manner, we will test for chlorine, alkalinity, and hardness. All information will then be uploaded to this website.
