About

The Couchiching Conservancy is a Charitable Non-Profit Land Trust supported by individuals like you – people who want to ensure that special natural places are safeguarded for the future.

Our mandate is to protect the special natural features of the Couchiching Region for present and future generations.

Stewarding 9,000 acres spread out over 24 properties is a big job, and we rely on trained teams of volunteers to help us monitor and maintain conservancy lands. In 2015 we established a Water Quality Monitoring Progam that has been such a success it has served as the template for a much larger citizen science initiative. To learn more, visit our website and click on "Volunteer".

Central Ontario: City of Orillia, Oro-Medonte, Severn, & Ramara Township, and the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Water testing protocol

The Couchiching Conservancy uses LaMotte Water Quality Educator and Monitoring field kits and performs tests on-site. The parameters we focus on are: air temperature, water temperature, depth, pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, alkalinity, nitrate-nitrogen, phosphates and chlorides.
