About
The Blue River Watershed Group (BRWG) was founded in 2004 by a group of local community members who were passionate about protecting and preserving the health of the Blue River Basin. Our mission is to promote, protect, and restore a healthy Blue River watershed through cooperative community education, stewardship, and resource management. We focus on the entire watershed, which drains an area of about 680 square miles covering all of Summit County and portions of Grand and Lake Counties. Read more about our organization here.
Water testing protocol
The Blue River Integrated Water Management Plan has determined that water quality including salinity is a challenge for numerous areas within the watershed. Increased application of deicers may be influencing the health of the rivers.
Salinity monitoring will take place primarily in the late winter and spring months when runoff from urban areas and roads influence the river. Pre-selected, priority sites will be monitored at least once a month from February through June. Volunteer selected sites will be tested at-will.
