Strange smell evident
There has been a lot of rainfall recently and the water was brown with sediment as is normal when there is high rainfall here.
Flow of river was fast
Any pollutants such as phosphates and nitrates would have been diluted by the heavy rain the previous day.
We swam upstream afterwards and there were small thin patches of bubbles on the surface of the water coming downstream towards us. This could have just been from agitation of the water further upstream.
