Smiths Bay on Lake Ontario
Ontario, Canada
Reading taken from a small municipal dock and launch ramp near the Waupoos Marina.
A good place to dive off on a warm day.
But the water weeds now almost reach the surface. Much larger that 15 years ago.
Sunny day with not much wave action

View all photosOvercast, heavy sky that just sprinkled a few drops of rain as I left. Only 1 MM rain in past 24 hours. Lots of seagulls around.
Sunny with some stormy looking clouds well off in the distance. Only less than 1 MM rainfall in past 24 hours. Few seagulls around, otherwise not much activity. Lots of sailboats docked in the marina.
Sunny with storm clouds gathering and strong westerly winds chopping up the water on the lake today. Swallows flying around catching the mosquitoes and black flies here.
Sunny day with just a few distant clouds. Bit of rain in past 24 hours but had around 34 Mm total precipitation over the past week. Docks not in place yet for the boats at the marina. Lots of seagulls on the water, a loon , pair of swans and a few ducks around. Plenty of small black lake flys / midges that gather in clouds when weather warms as it has today.
Overcast sky. Rain mixed with hail during the past 24 hours. Seagulls flying around and some of the last boats to be taken out and stored for the winter were being removed today. Water very clear with heavy weeds along the bottom around the pier.
Sunny day with just a few clouds and calm winds. No rain in past 24 hours. Single fisherman at the end of the dock hoping to catch bass, pike, pickerel or whatever he might find in season. Few squirrels chattering away in the trees and the odd hornet flying around dopely.
Mostly sunny, hot & humid with some clouds around. About 11 MM rain in past 24 hours in Milford area. Some seagulls and cormorants out on the rocks and a few chipmunks running around. Not much boating activity on the bay and too calm for sailboats. One boater leaving the launch area and leaving behind them a trail of gasoline residue floating atop the water……not uncommon at all to see this and most boaters don’t recognize their impacts on our waterways when these amounts add up and don’t just disappear magically!
Hazy and windy today with around 3 MM rain over past 24 hours. Haze is being caused by the forest fires out west with smoke drifting this far and causing air quality warnings to be issued. Few seagulls flying around, some folks fishing and many boats out on the water with lots docked at the marina. Nice chat with a young local resident who cottages on the Island so he was interested in our water testing and I gave him a card to learn more about it. He’s a local home builder ( Hickory Homes ) & I mentioned the importance of maintaining natural shorelines and the Pugnose Shiner program our CSG is part of this summer with Watersheds Canada and Natural Edge.
Sunny day with moderate winds and calm water on the lake today. No rain in past 24 hrs. Seagulls and swallows around today….love watching the swallows flying around catching insects. Minnows in the water near the shore. Sailboats being put into the water from dry dock and more in their moorings each time we come here.
About 3-4 Mm rain over past 24 hours and raining now in some nearby areas. Zebra mussels can be seen at the bottom of the lake where we do our secchi measurements and along the shoreline. Cormorants out on the rocks of the breakwater, some Canada Geese in the lake along with a few loons. Swallows flying around eating the clouds of Lake Bugs, other than the ones hovering around my head :)
