Bubbles were produced following a surge of water from the pipe. There was a washing machine smell.

Note at this location I attempt sample from the pipe/where the pipe water meets the surface of the river. Water level, colour & clarity refer to the river rather than what is flowing out of the pipe. The water level was higher than average but not breaching the river bank. There was a steady to strong flow from the pipe.

I have not answered most of the qualitative questions above due to sampling straight from the pipe. The river water directly below the pipe was brown/opaque and there was some foam a little way downstream. The estimate of water flow is replaced by flow from the pipe which can be slow, steady or surging.

Trees line the riverbank, there was a bag of discarded rubbish on the riverbank, there was a (washing machine) smell when the pipe was discharging more strongly. We tested nitrates and phosphates twice when there was a gentler flow from the pipe, and when there was a more surging flow. The results were the same. There was bubbling and some foam immediately below the outflow pipe following the stronger surge.

Lots of bubbles seen as the water coming from the outflow pipe hit the surface of the river. There was a hint of a sewerage type smell.
