Dead fish or shrimp shell smell
There was slight sheen on the water and a dead fish smell.
There was vegetation debris in the creek.
While sampling at Dykes Creek a Mr. Robert Ellington stopped and talked with me about the sampling. He has a lot on Dykes creek at corner of Canal road and Fowl River road. He is concerned that runoff from the County property at the end of Thomas road and Bay road is contaminating the creek. He said he has reported this to the county and Mobile Commissioner Jerry Carl. He said he has seen nothing done about it. He wanted to know why I sample at the time that I do and not during heavy rain events when the runoff is cloudy with sediment and has oil sheen on it. I explained that I am a volunteer for FRACA and not associated with any government agency. I am following the protocol that I was trained on. I sample between the 20th and 30th of the month and between 10am and 2pm. I told him he can find my results on the Water Watch web site. I also asked if he would like to be part of the sampling network and he said he would. I also told him he could take over sampling Dykes Creek if he got trained. Attached is a photo that shows an oil sheen on Dykes Creek.
No rain in a a week before sample
There as strong flow in stream. The bacteriological colonies were back in the normal range after a high month in October.
The tide was falling
My incubated samples looked very different from my normal samples. there were significantly more colonies and there were little blisters in the media. The e-coli is higher than I have ever seen
Adequate depth and falling tide.Good flow in creek
There was a lot of rain two days before but none the day before. The stream had a good flow in it. I could not get the video to download.
