Aquatic biologist, Robert Storm Burks confirmed from the photos it is not a cyanobacterial bloom which we know can release toxins in the water, but rather filamentous green algae which we often see in this area around Green Cove Springs. Which algae species could not be confirmed without putting it under a scope. Unfortunately, when the filamentous algae gets this thick, because of nutrients in the water and warm waters combined with sunlight, it will smother the native grasses that should be growing beneath it. In fact, most of it is attached to those grasses, and is blocking out the sunlight that they need

Was not a cyanobacteria bloom, but fast growth in filamentous algae (not toxin producing algae).
