How to identify it
- Leaves are 3-10cm and circular or heart shaped
- Flowers have 5 yellow petals
- Stems are 1 meter long and are branched
- Stems are below the surface of the water
- Bottom rooted perennial plant
Why it's bad
- Can shade out native plants
- Reduces available habitat for other wildlife, such as fish and nesting birds
- Affect water quality by decreasing oxygen levels, creating stagnant waters, ideal for breeding mosquitoes
- Makes it difficult to enjoy boating, swimming and fishing
