Bloody Red Shrimp

How to identify it

  • Female bloody red shrimp are up to 1.7 centimetres long
  • Males are up to one centimetre long
  • Bodies are translucent with bright red to reddish-orange colouring, especially around the head and tail
  • They have large, black eyes that extend from the body on short stalks
  • The tail is square with two spines at the end
  • Usually seen during the day in swarms

Why it's bad

  • Reduces food available for native species
  • Swarms compete with fish as well
